SYRACUSE, November 5, 2008 — After serving Onondaga County government for over forty years, Nicholas J. Pirro continues his public service in the private sector. By joining Gilberti Stinziano Heintz & Smith, P.C. as a Business Advisor, Pirro expects to help many more counties in the state with his knowledge and experience.
“The law firm already understands how counties operate based on their years of service to counties across the state on a variety of legal matters,” said Pirro. “By combining my government experience with their legal expertise, we look forward to helping county governments identify and acquire new, more effective and efficient tools and to explore new ways of cooperating and coordinating county action to better serve the needs of all the citizens of New York.”
Following twenty-two years as a Legislator, Pirro served five terms as Onondaga County Executive. As County Executive, Pirro was actively involved in projects such as implementation of the nationally accredited and award winning 911 Emergency Communications System, initiation of a County-wide recycling program as an integral part of the County's solid waste program, and the construction of an estimated $450 million upgrade to the Metropolitan Sewage Treatment Plant. Pirro was also active in the New York State Association of Counties, serving as President in 2000-2001.
In addition to his government service, Pirro impacted the Central New York community through involvement in civic organizations, volunteering his time to support such causes as Success by 6, the March of Dimes and the CNY SPCA. Pirro received the Catholic Charities Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication to the community.
“Nick’s integrity and dedication to our community makes him a perfect fit for this law firm, said William Gilberti, CEO of Gilberti Stinziano Heintz & Smith, P.C. “We’re proud to offer our municipal clients Nick’s advice and guidance.”
